HOUSTON – Texans co-founder and senior chair Janice McNair, the widow of the late Bob McNair and the mother of principal franchise owner and CEO Cal McNair, will be recognized in January with an annual Houston Sports Award.
McNair will receive the Lifetime Achievement award.

McNair, who moved to Houston in 1960, was instrumental in her partnership with her husband in bringing an NFL team back to Houston after the departure of the Oilers to Nashville, Tenn. She has been extremely involved in the community.
“The impact that Mrs. McNair has left on the City of Houston and surrounding areas is truly immeasurable,” said Daniel Gotera, Sr. director of communications for the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority. “Since her and Bob brought the NFL back to Houston, not only have we seen her passion and kindness on full display, but we’ve also witnessed the true power of using a platform for good. Mrs. McNair loves her team and this city. Her life’s work is absolutely worth celebrating.”

McNair was principal owner after her husband died in 2018. Cal McNair was unanimously voted principal owner in March at the annual owners meetings in Florida.

McNair, 88, attended the Texans’ game Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts as Andre Johnson received his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring.
Bob McNair was given the Lifetime Achievement award in 2020.
