HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have traded defensive tackle Khalil Davis to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick, per a league source.
The 49ers did a significant amount of background work on Davis before making this move with Texans’ General Manager Nick Caserio.

The Texans get defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr. back from a four-game suspension after the Detroit Lions game.
With Edwards’ pending return, the Texans have enough depth at the position.
This was the Texans’ only trade at the deadline after a busy offseason that included trading for four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who’s out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Throughout the process, the Texans had signaled they wouldn’t be big players as either buyers or sellers at the NFL deadline.
“My opinion is always the same on that,” Texans’ Head Coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday. “Nick and his staff, we’re always looking to make our team as good as we can possibly be. It’s do we have a heightened sense of making a move just to make one? No. We’re always looking to add to our team. Add to our depth.
“That’s something we do constantly throughout the year. So, there isn’t just a mad rush now at the trade deadline for us to change our approach and how we go about managing our roster. Our roster management doesn’t change. We’re always looking to upgrade.”
Davis (6-foot-2, 315 pounds) has played in every game this season for the 6-3 Texans. He has recorded nine tackles and one sack with four tackles for losses, appearing in 172 defensive snaps for 32 percent of the total defensive playing time this season.
Last season, he appeared in 15 games with one start for the AFC South champions.
He recorded a career-high 32 tackles with six quarterback hits and two sacks. He had six tackles for losses.
Davis is a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers sixth-round pick from Nebraska.
He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.75 seconds.
Davis has also played for the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Rams and with the Birmingham Stallions in the USFL.
The Texans officially signed former Los Angeles Rams offensive guard Tremayne Anchrum Jr. to the practice squad and released linebacker Shaun Bradley from the practice squad.
The Texans worked out Anchrum on Monday along with fellow offensive linemen La’el Collins, Ike Boettger and Jerome Carvin and defensive back Jason Taylor.
