HOUSTON – The Texans are elevating defensive tackle Tommy Togiai to the active roster from the practice squad for a Sunday night game against the Detroit Lions, according to a league source.
The Texans need depth across the defensive line with defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi questionable this week due to injuries and defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr. out for this game and back next week from a four-game NFL suspension. Plus, Pro Bowl defensive end Will Anderson Jr. is out this week against the Lions and perhaps even longer due to a mild high ankle sprain, per league sources.

Togiai played collegiately at Ohio State and was drafted in the fourth round by the Cleveland Browns. He has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons. He was signed to the Texans’ practice squad in September following a successful tryout that included defensive backs Joshuah Bledsoe, A.J. Green and Tre Herndon.
He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds and benched pressed 225 pounds 40 times with a 32-inch vertical leap.

Togiai (6-foot-2, 296) has 29 career tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery. in 18 career games with two starts He was released by Atlanta in August.
At Ohio State, he had 49 career tackles, 8 1/2 for losses and three sacks with one forced fumble.
He’s a former Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year and blue-chip recruit who recorded 93 tackles, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception for a state championship team as a high school senior.
