Texas Bowl matchup set: LSU versus Baylor

HOUSTON – The Texas Bowl will feature a matchup between LSU and Baylor on New Year’s Eve at NRG Stadium.

The Kinder’s sponsored bowl game is set for 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 on ESPN.

LSU (8-4) was once ranked eighth overall, but lost three consecutive games to Texas A&M, Alabama and Florida to all out of playoff contention. The Tigers defeated Vanderbilt and Oklahoma to finish the regular season and defeated seven of 10 bowl-eligible teams this season. Theyr’e led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who has passed for 3,735 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Baylor overcame a 2-4 start and has won six consecutive games.

Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson has thrown 26 touchdown passes. Bryson Washington has rushed for 1,004 yards and 12 touchdowns. And All-Big 12 linebackers Matt Jones and Keaton Thomas both have over 100 tackles for a defense led by coach Dave Aranda.

LSU last played in the Texas Bowl in 2021, losing to Kansas State.

The last time Baylor and LSU played was in the 1985 Liberty Bowl as the Bears won, 21-7.

“We are fired up to announce the 2024 Kinder’s Texas Bowl between the LSU Tigers and the Baylor Bears, two prestigious institutions from the SEC and Big 12,” Texas Bowl executive director David Fletcher said. “The Texas Bowl is historically one of the largest annual events in our community and this year’s game is no exception. We look forward to welcoming LSU, Baylor and college football fans from throughout the region to Houston for a week of Texas-themed events that will culminate in a New Year’s Eve showdown at NRG Stadium on December 31.”
