HOUSTONNico Collins couldn’t resist the urge to reward a loyal fan, even though it wound up costing him money.

The Texans’ star wide receiver was fined by the NFL for a violation of its sportsmanship rulebook for tossing a football into the stands underhand after his touchdown against the Tennessee Titans.

“Crazy, right?” Collins said.

Collins said he was fined roughly $5,000. The listed fine for a first infraction of throwing a football into the stands is $7,878, with a second offense costing $13,506.

Collins said this is his first fine for that offense. He plans to appeal the punishment.

“I seen the kid, he was screaming,” Collins said. “I was thinking, ‘Here you go, big dog, here’s the ball.’ It’s all good.

“Definitely worth it, only thing that matters was making that kid happy. He’s never going to forget that moment. So, that’s all that matters to me.”
