HOUSTON – Hello Texans nation! This is KPRC 2 Sports Director Randy McIlvoy checking in with this week’s edition of your Texans newsletter that we’ve done all season long!

Happy New Year to everyone and let’s hope the Texans start 2025 much better than the way they ended 2024 with that embarrassing blowout 31-2 loss to the Ravens on Christmas Day.

WHAT’S AHEAD?

The Texans took a few days off after that loss to the Ravens to regroup and get locked back in as they close out the regular season this Sunday in Nashville when they take on the Tennessee Titans. Back on November 24th the Titans came to NRG Stadium and took down the Texans 32-27 behind a big day from QB Will Levis who threw for 278 yards and 2 touchdowns and RB Tony Pollard who rushed for 119 yards. The Texans defensive front did it’s part in the loss when they sacked Levis 8 times but that wasn’t enough.

PLAYOFF SITUATION

The Texans currently sit 9-7, losing two of their last three games, but have wrapped up the AFC South division title so that part is secured. The Texans will be playoff bound and get to host their wild card round game on either January 11 or 12th at NRG Stadium.

If the playoffs were to begin today the Texans would host the Steelers that first weekend. Head Coach Mike Tomlin is a legend who always has his teams ready for the postseason. That one will not be a cakewalk for Houston.

The Texans have big issues to get cleaned up not only for Tennessee but if they have any shot at making a legitimate playoff push. QB C.J. Stroud is banged up so are a lot of Texans players this time of the year and all over the league.

Here’s Head Coach DeMeco Ryans on pushing through the pain.

The Texans got a new face in the receiving corp last week when they signed WR Diontae Johnson who had been released by the Ravens and prior to that by Carolina. He spoke Monday at NRG.

Buckle up and get ready for some more football! NFL playoffs begin in less than two weeks!

Happy New Year!
