Texans signing veteran corner Anthony Averett to practice squad

HOUSTON – The Texans are signing veteran cornerback Anthony Averett to their practice squad, days after they signed cornerback D’Angelo Ross to the 53-man roster.

Averett, represented by agent Chad Wiestling of Black Label Sports Group, is a former Baltimore Ravens fourth-round draft pick from Alabama.

Averett has 114 career tackles and three interceptions.

He has also played for the Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Averett (5-foot-11, 178 pounds) is a New Jersey native who was last with the Steelers. He’s the nephew of former Pro Bowl left tackle Bryant McKinnie.

Averett has run the 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds, running the 100 meters in 10.6 seconds in high school and finishing with a 25-2 long jump at the Penn Relays for the second-longest jump in New Jersey high school history.
