By adding Robinson, the Texans have replaced five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and now have the flexibility of potentially have Tytus Howard stay inside at offensive guard or shift him to right tackle.
The Texans had made fluid plans to have Howard at left tackle after trading Tunsil to the Washington Commanders and have second-year tackle Blake Fisher line up at right tackle. Now, the Texans have the ability to play multiple players at either tackle spot.
The overhaul of the offensive line continues as the Texans have now done the following moves:
Trading Tunsil to the Commanders.
Trading offensive guard Kenyon Green to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
Releasing offensive guard Shaq Mason and designating him as a post-June 1 release.
Signing former Pro Bowl offensive guard Laken Tomlinson to a one-year, $5 million max value deal.
Trading for former Minnesota Vikings second-round guard Ed Ingram.
Re-signing offensive lineman Zach Thomas.
Robinson, 29, is a former Jacksonville Jaguars second-round draft pick from Alabama.
Robinson stepped in for Christian Darrisaw last season in Minnesota when he got hurt.
He allowed four sacks and 49 pressures for the Vikings, including a dozen pressures in a wild-card playoff game loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
He had 13 penalties, seven sacks allowed and 52 pressures overall for the season. He was ranked 53rd overall among offensive tackles, according to Pro Football Focus analytics.
He started seven games last season for the Jaguars and 10 games for the Vikings, after being traded to Minnesota along with a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick that became a fourth-round selection based on his playing time.
