HOUSTON – The Texans’ dramatic overhaul of their offensive line continued Friday as they are signing massive veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown to a one-year, $3 million contract, per a league source.
Brown, 31, is listed at 6-foot-8, 380 pounds and is one of the biggest offensive linemen in the NFL.

He started eight of 11 games two seasons ago for the New England Patriots. Brown overlapped in New England when offensive coordinator Nick Caley and offensive line coach Cole Popovich were on coach Bill Belichick’s Super Bowl winning staffs along with Texans general manager Nick Caserio.
Brown is represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus.
Brown figures into the offensive line as a right tackle candidate and added for swing duties, per a league source, because he’s also played left tackle. Brown has started 96 of 103 career games played. He has also played offensive guard previously, but he’ll play tackle for the Texans.
Brown tore his patellar tendon in the third game last season and has made a sound recovery.
A former San Francisco 49ers seventh-round draft pick from Florida and Georgia Military College who played for the New England Patriots twice and Las Vegas Raiders, Brown was a three-game starter for the Cincinnati Bengals last season before he got hurt.
In 2019, he signed a four-year, $66 million deal with the Raiders that included $36.75 million and made him the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL at that time. He allowed just one sack in his first 11 games iwth the Raiders. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019.
The Texans are bolstering and making over their offensive line significantly.
The Texans are overhauling their offensive line after trading Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders, signing veteran left tackle Cam Robinson, trading Kenyon Green to the Eagles, cutting offensive guard Shaq Mason, signing guard Laken Tomlinson and trading for guard Ed Ingram.
As coach DeMeco Ryans said at the combine, the Texans are “hitting the reset button” across the offensive line.
