Fort Bend County, Texas – Chidiebube Chiakwelu didn’t pick up a basketball until the 8th grade, yet on Monday, the George Ranch graduate signed to play at the next level at Presbyterian College.
“It was surreal, even when I signed I was like man I’m D1 now,” Chiakwelu said. It’s been crazy, because I started in like 8th grade. I couldn’t even catch the basketball. I’ve really taken long steps in development and I’m proud to see where I’m at.”
The 6′7 athletic big man popped on scouts radars with his defensive ability and versatility.
“He’s put in a lot of work. Pretty excited about his growth and maturity and for him to play at the next level, his high school coach, Brian Henry said. “Things you can’t teach like athleticism. He can guard a variety of positions on the court.”
Chiakwelu will head to Prebyterian later this week to begin his college career.
