Officials with the Houston Public Works stated that the city’s water systems are stable following the three-day freeze but they expect to see an increase in water demand as pipes begin to thaw out and possibly cause leaks.

Several Houston-area school districts will return to class Wednesday after closing Tuesday due to the arctic blast.

Mayor John Whitmire will join leaders Tuesday from the Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department, Houston Public Works, the Office of Emergency Management, and others to provide an update on the weather conditions and the city’s preparedness and response operations.

Several homes in the Magnolia area dealt with extremely cold temperatures after being without natural gas services for hours.

The Houston Police Department is urging drivers to stay safe on the roads after more than 580 crashes were reported in the area overnight. Of those, Mayor John Whitmire confirmed that 251 crashes were ice-related.
