"I fit in their defense as the two-point stand-up end in their system, and academically getting a degree from TCU is big." Before Watson packs up his things, he has to complete his senior year at Hutto High School. He's been preparing for his final Texas high school football season and his future college career over the past few months.

Wimberley senior Holly Harwood is approaching the one year anniversary of her October 2019 commitment to Angelo State University soccer. "I decided to commit then because it gave me plenty of time to prepare and took off a lot of pressure, so I could just play," said Harwood. "I feel like ASU is a good fit for me because of the style they play and the coaching is very excellent." Harwood may have traded her Hill Country home for a college opportunity in West Texas, but it's still close enough for her family to watch her future athletic achievements. Before the move occurs, Harwood has another year as a Wimberley High School soccer, track and volleyball athlete.

But, that changed with 2021 Westlake prospect KJ Adams, who committed to college basketball power Kansas during his Friday July 31st announcement. "It would have been easier and predictable for me to stay close to Austin or in Austin," Adams told VYPE Media in an interview. "All of the schools on my list have great academics, great facilities, great coaching staffs and players," he continued. Before Adams heads to Lawrence, Kansas, he has another Texas high school basketball season to prepare for it.

One incentive for the upcoming campaign is the fact that she earned a UIL 4A all-state honorable mention recognition for her play during the 2019 volleyball season. After she completes her final high school volleyball season, she'll stay in the gym and remain competitive for basketball season. "Oklahoma stood out because the opportunity to change how the world views defensive backs coming out of the university really intrigued me," said McCutchin. That amount of college interest is because McCutchin's ranked as the eighth best Texas prospect for the Class of 2021. VYPE even recognized him as the best football recruit in the Austin area in January. "I wouldn't say that the chemistry of our secondary only includes [fellow recruit] Andrew [Mukuba] and I," said McCutchin.

For San Marcos senior Faith Phillips, she found one for our future college basketball career at St. Mary's University. Most of my family does live in San Marcos, so it definitely is a plus that they will get to see me play." She helped San Marcos win 20 games during the 2019-2020 girls basketball season and her play against region teams earned her a UIL 26-6A first-team all-district honor. "I think last season has ignited a fire in every single member of the Lady Rattler program," said Phillips. San Marcos remains a UIL 26-6A member for the next two school years, but faces a new Austin area slate of district opponents.

Georgetown offensive lineman Connor Heffernan has experienced a spike in his football career over the past few months. Heffernan has found a good amount of success in the recruiting process, as evident by his 17 college football offers. He ultimately decided on Baylor over fellow Power Five programs Mississippi State and Syracuse and 14 other opportunities. "Prior to this year, I wasn't ranked very high and I never let that get to me," said Heffernan. "Georgetown is one of the few places that got to have a full strength and conditioning camp this summer," said Heffernan.

Nearly six hours before the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals kicked off the 2020 season, Marble Falls baseball player Luke Nail announced his 2021 commitment to Blinn College. "I think it's gonna be a great opportunity for me and my development as a baseball player," he said of representing the "Baseball Capital of Texas", Brenham. Prior to the 2019-2020 school year, he was both a high school baseball and high school football player. So, they might assume that he picked Thursday's Opening Day to share his college baseball commitment on Twitter. That type of decision allows Nail to prepare for his final high school baseball season, as well as the next level.

The Lake Travis multi-sport athlete is about to start her senior year of high school and her SMU commitment solidifies her status as one of the top volleyball recruits in the Austin area. That allows Texas high school volleyball fans another opportunity to see her take the court for Lake Travis. "The benefits of playing at a high-profile high school like Lake Travis is the competition," said Wheeler. I think playing at Lake Travis will definitely prepare me for college volleyball because of the mental toughness required to play the sport, especially...with such a competitive atmosphere." If everything goes as planned during the 2020-2021 school year, you'll also see her high school encore during the 2021 track season.

One of its athletes, five-sport female Tristin Keller, has found a way to be a part of both groups. "I have played nine different sports growing up: gymnastics, soccer, baseball, softball, football, tennis, track, cross country and basketball. Keller ultimately condensed her athletic involvement to basketball, football, softball, tennis and track. At first glance, two things immediately stand out: the five sports she still plays and being a female member of the football program. In a normal year, Moffett and her Pflugerville Connally teammates would be preparing for the season's first practice. Moffett wants to wrap up her high school career on the right note and plans to play an important role for Pflugerville Connally during her senior year. "Something people don't know about me is that I am a talented artist," said Moffett. I do plan on making that more of a bigger hobby in my life and sell some art, after volleyball of course."

In a survey conducted by the Minnesota State High School League in 2007, it stated the average GPA of a high school athlete was 2.84, while a non-athlete was a 2.68. HOUSTON - The University Interscholastic League has announced a radical plan for the start of the 2020-2021 fall season. On Tuesday, the UIL announced a new calendar for fall sports but it is split. Class 1A-4A will be allowed to start on time, while Class 5A and 6A will be pushed back a month into September. Practice for football and volleyball teams will begin August 3, while volleyball will start games August 10 and football on August 27, like it was originally scheduled. According to High School Football America there are 13 states that have adjusted the start of the 2020 football season.

The 2020 UIL cross country season is approaching, so it's time to release the VYPE Austin girls public school team rankings. 2 Dripping Springs: The Tigers recorded a seventh-place finish at the 2019 UIL 5A state meet and will find more success with their five returning state runners. 3 Cedar Park: The Timberwolves earned a ninth-place finish at the 2019 UIL 5A state meet and can top that with their six state experienced upperclassmen. 4 Georgetown: The Eagles have five state returners from their 11th place finish at the 2019 UIL 5A state meet, including fourth-place finisher McKenzie Bailey. Mason: The Cowgirls finished 11th at the 2019 UIL 2A state meet and will stay competitive with their six state experienced runners.

During a webinar on Friday, TAPPS announced that no scrimmages, games, contests or tournaments can be held between August 3 and September 7. Originally, the TAPPS calendar had practice for football, volleyball and fall soccer set for August 3; first volleyball games for August 10 and football for August 27. Those start dates are now off the table. During the week of September 21, TAPPS football programs can hold one scrimmage. Those dates have been shifted to November 2 (first day of practice), November 9 (first day of scrimmages) and November 12 (first day of games).
