Veteran immigration attorneys and immigrant rights advocates are waiting to hear what President-elect Donald Trump’s plan will be to handle a backlog of cases in immigration court.

The Harris County Criminal Courts at Law have been working to catch up on backlogged cases from over the years.

Recently released data from Customs and Border protection shows a jump a 36-percent jump in the number of apprehensions along the southern border from July to August. The increase comes after President Joe Biden administration put policies in place to try to stem the flow of illegal border crossings following the end of Title 42.

Immigration attorneys and immigration rights advocates are hopeful a recent ruling by the United States Supreme Court will help bring down the historic number of cases backlogged in our immigration court system.

It appears that Teare will now challenge his soon-to-be former boss, District Attorney Kim Ogg, in the next primary.

Given the record number of apprehensions seen along our southern border for a second year, the concern is growing over the backlog of cases in immigration court.
