A young cheerleader from North Texas was paralyzed during a freak accident while practicing for homecoming.

Corsicana has gotten a lot of attention in recent months due to the hit Netflix docuseries Cheer, which follows the top-tier Navarro College cheerleading squad. Cheer portrays the town as quaint and sleepy, but for those who know Corsicana outside of the small screen, the biggest draw is the town’s burgeoning art scene.

NORTH CAROLINA – In a year filled with challenges and change, a little cheer goes a long way. One North Carolina elementary school principal took that “cheer” to a new level on the last day of school before winter break. Kensington Elementary principal Terry Vaughn knew his students needed a laugh. Just like that popular, sneaky little elf on the shelf, Vaughn made some mischief wherever he went. “I look pretty thin in general, but that’s 200 pounds of man that’s shoved into a piece of glass,” he laughs.

CHICAGO – “Cheer” star Jerry Harris, already facing federal child pornography charges, has been indicted on new charges that allege he solicited sex from minors at cheerleading competitions and convinced teenage boys to send him obscene photographs and videos of themselves. The new seven-count indictment that was made public on Friday was not unexpected. Harris, 21, of Naperville, has been held in a federal detention facility without bond since he was arrested on child pornography charges in September, and a judge has subsequently suggested that Harris would pose a public danger if released from custody. Harris' attorneys have not yet spoken about the new charges but an arraignment was scheduled for Friday afternoon. Harris, who was born in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale and raised in nearby Bolingbrook, was the breakout star of the Emmy-winning docuseries that follows the cheerleading team from Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas.

(AP) – “Cheer” star Jerry Harris will remain in jail while awaiting trial on child pornography charges, a federal judge in Chicago said Friday. Attorneys for Harris, who appears in the Netflix documentary series, had asked that he be released and confined at home under strict conditions. Four women had promised to monitor Harris if he were released from jail. But McShain said Harris would remain locked up. “Upon learning of the investigation, (Harris) dumped his cellphone, obtained a new cellphone and continued with his same course of conduct,” McShain said.

The FBI is seeking to identify additional underage children that were asked by Jerry Harris to produce or view sexually graphic videos or photos or engage in sexual conduct, the agency announced Friday. All responses are voluntary but may be useful in the federal investigation and to identify potential victims. The agency says that you may have already given this information to an FBI agent, but to provide the information again in the questionnaire. Based on your responses, you may be contacted by the FBI and asked to provide additional information. All identities of victims will be kept confidential, the FBI says.

The lawsuit filed Monday in Texas against Harris and three cheer organizations says the boys' mother reported Harris to the FBI last month. The boys’ mother told USA TODAY that both boys have spoken to the FBI. Harris, who has not been criminally charged, did not respond to a request for comment from USA TODAY. In addition to accusing Harris of sexual misconduct, the lawsuit accuses cheer organizations of failing to protect the boys. The lawsuit says the boys’ mother reported Harris to USASF, Varsity and Cheer Athletics.

Whitney Cummings, who was serving as a host of sorts for the chat, also asked Teigen to help pick what A-list actors would play the Cheer cast in a potential movie about the Navarro cheerleading squad. Michael Buble also stopped in, before avid Cheer fansAshton Kutcher and Mila Kunis joined the call. When ET caught up with fellow Cheer star Jerry Harris in January, he gushed about the support he and his teammates have received since the debut of the series.

JJ Watt and the Navarro Cheer team shared an unforgettable moment on the “Today Show" this week. The Texans defensive end surprised the stars of the Netflix documentary “Cheer” during an interview with hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. “It’s unbelievable,” said Watt as the stars of ‘Cheer’ were floored by his surprised appearance, “It’s so much fun to watch. Navarro Cheer coach Monica Aldama, along with cheer squad members Jerry Harris, Gabi Butler and La’Darius Marshall were talking about Watt and how he is considered “Texas royalty” before introducing him. He will also make a guest appearance on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” tonight on NBC on Thursday.
