That player asked not to be named, for fear of retribution by the university and donors. He said it was Del Conte who told players that donors were unhappy and threatening to pull financial support. “I never said this nor would I say this to a student-athlete, and I’ve never heard it from any donors or alumni. Michigan and Texas both announced financial cuts and dozens of layoffs in their respective athletic departments on Tuesday. Michigan is not playing football this fall; Texas is. Those come after the school previously imposed a hiring freeze, salary reductions and team expense cuts.
