After winning a special election to finish her late mother’s term in Congress, Erica Lee Carter, the daughter of Sheila Jackson Lee, will take the oath of office in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.

Jackson Lee’s children endorsed Sylvester Turner to succeed their mother, who also emphasized his commitment to continuing Jackson Lee’s legacy of service while providing stability during the transition.

Carter will run against two Republicans for her mother’s seat to hold for a few weeks before the winner of the general election takes over.

After careful consideration, Erica Lee Carter, the daughter of the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, has decided to run to finish her mother’s term in the November Special Election.

According to an emailed press release, Erica Lee Carter “has been recently asked by community leaders and Democratic party supporters to consider running.” And now, we’re told she is “strongly considering running.”
