Coach Remon Smith has enjoyed numerous successes throughout his coaching career. But, none have compared to that of this past Spring, in which his Klein Forest team dominated at the UIL State Meet to earn an undisputed state championship.

CARA SHIRLEY HAS BEEN EXCEPTIONAL FOR CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CROSS COUNTRY, DESPITE HER YOUNG AGE.

Neuhaus led the Crusaders on the hardwood earning a first-team, all-district nod as a junior. She is following in the footsteps of her older sister Jane Neuhaus, who was a star for the Crusaders and now plays at Concordia University-Nebraska.

Primarily, he’s an athlete with tremendous endurance. His performance on the oval in the 800m dash and long distance runs, and during the cross-country season proves his point.

Simply put, Lake Creek is home to what might be the greatest softball team that Class 5A has ever seen. They certainly have the numbers--81 consecutive wins and counting--to substantiate that claim.

The Golden Eagles won gold in the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay at State. Jelani Watkins defended his 200m title with gold and Lawson Jacobs captured silver in the 400m to rack up some much-needed points. It was a team effort, but Watkins finished it off for Klein Forest as he blazed in the final leg of the 4x400 to give the Eagles 58 points and the win.

For the sixth time since 2013, Fort Bend Marshall boys track and field are Class 5A UIL Texas State Champions.

In the case of Crosby’s three-sport competitor, senior Xandra Hernandez, she doesn’t see that as a bad thing. Hernandez represents Crosby year-round, beginning with swim and powerlifting in the Winter and wraps up with track and field in the Spring.

As the baby of the family, Memorial’s Indya Dotson has always been competitive. Her dad Santana Dotson was a force on the famous 1985 Yates State Championship team before going onto to be an All-American at Baylor in 1991 and the 1992 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He had a 10-year career in the NFL and was a member of the Super Bowl XXXI Champion Green Bay Packers.

Warriors Track & Field turned up the heat to cap off a stellar Spring season. After advancing through Area and Regionals, Coach Tom Earle’s group of qualifiers set off to Hewitt, TX this past weekend to contend with the best in Texas private school at the TAPPS State Championship.

Fort Bend Christian Academy traveled to Midway ISD’s Panther Stadium on Friday with one mission in mind: Repeat. It was only a year ago that FBCA Track & Field was celebrating its State Championship acquisition, and they haven’t slowed down since.

Well, it’s official. FBCA is a metaphorical well-oiled machine that generates super-star talent. The latest in a long line of gifted competitors to punch their ticket to next-level is none other than Fort Bend Christian Track & Field product, Noah Brooks.

After a thrilling Spring season and an even more entertaining series of events at the South Regionals, it’s all come down to this. The TAPPS State Meet will be taking place this Friday and Saturday at Midway ISD’s Panther Stadium. Fortunately for local fan bases, the Houston area will be well-represented across the board.

OFTEN TIMES, TRACK AND FIELD IS SOMETHING DONE IN THE OFFSEASON OF AN ATHLETE’S PRIMARY SPORT. That was the case for Nimitz super-jumper Na’Zahia Thomas.

LSA Track and Field held District track meets last week and VYPE was on hand to catch all the action in a cinematic way at both the meets.

Cummings is off to a fast start this Spring, given that she won the Tri-Meet (Randle, Magnolia and Hastings) in the 200-meters (PR: 25.50), claimed second in the Buffalo Relays and finished fifth in the Fort Bend ISD Invitational.

“I’ve been training hard for this season,” said McGown. “I drive up to College Station three times a week for pole vault practice at my club team (Mac Vault) as well as lifting weights and mentally preparing before each meet. I hope to leave a legacy here at Fulshear.”

The Signorelli family is in the pole-vaulting business… and business is good. Nico and Milla Signorelli have had impressive seasons in 2023 and look to battle for the SPC Championship. Father, Danny – who pole vaulted at Texas A&M – has coached them along the way.

The most notable cause for celebration for the Pioneers during the annual LSA Night Under the Lights meet at Glassel Stadium was when junior Wilson Klein burst onto the scene in the Pole Vault event, earning gold (15’ 1’’) while setting a new school record in the process.

It is almost becoming redundant at this point, but it seems that the rich keep getting richer at Fort Bend Christian Academy Track & Field.The Eagles made it clear that they wanted their performance at the Stafford Spartan Relays earlier this month to be memorable. Suffice it to say, they did not disappoint.

The 2021 TAPPS Track & Field State Meet got underway on Friday morning at Midway Stadium in Waco, Texas and the big distances were eye-popping, even record-breaking.

HOUSTON - Turn on the video and the first thing you notice is Cameryn Dickson's bright red jersey against the dropbox of a dark April night.

Amarachukwu Oguchi has started her senior season off with a bang. Looking back to 2020, the best discus throw by Oguchi came also in the first meet at the Woodlands Christian Invitational with a toss of 122-feet-7-inches. Due to the shortened season, John Cooper School only competed in four meets and there were no SPC Championships. In the summer, Oguchi competed in 10 different events for discus and her distances just kept getting better and better. On July 24 in the PPA Virtual Meet #12 she hit 135-2.5, on July 31 in the USATF Youth Virtual Summer Challenge she hit 140-6.5 and then 142-11 on September 4.

On Monday, The Woodlands Christian Academy boys team captured its fourth-straight TAPPS Cross Country Team State Championship with 70 points and three runners finishing inside the Top 10. The group was led by Ben Shearer, who won his second-straight individual TAPPS State Championship, posting a time of 15:32. "Coming from a very uncertain time in track last year to cross country this year was a little shaky. Just coming into this final meet for me in cross country, it's nice to cap it off." Ben Shearer is the top finisher at the TAPPS 5A Boys Cross Country Meet!

FOR BEN SHEARER, RUNNING IS A FAMILY TRADITION. He won the Class 4A TAPPS individual title in October by over a minute to lead his team to its third- straight state title. His sister Hannah won two state titles for the Warriors back in 2014 and 2016. While Shearer is uber-talented, he knows what is the cornerstone of being a cross- country star. Shearer finished fifth at the Nike Cross-National South Regional Meet, before winning the 2020 Carl Lewis High School Indoor Invitational in the one-mile race.

VYPE whipped together this preview to get cross country fans ready for the 2020 season. These are the top runners and teams for Public School Boys Cross Country. When you look at a team that finished 16th overall at state last year but brings back everyone, that excites you. Other To Watch: HuffmanThe Huffman boys finished 15th overall at the UIL State Cross Country meet last year. The Spartans finished 12th overall at state last year but do lose top runner Erick Lara, who took 41st overall.
