The request by the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus in a letter to the Department of Justice follows a similar request by a Latino civil rights organization.

A Latino voting rights group is calling for a federal investigation after its volunteers said Texas authorities raided their homes and seized phones and computers.

The Texas attorney general’s office searched the home of Cecilia Castellano and a Democratic legislative aide. It said it’s investigating vote harvesting. Activists called it “intimidation.”

The group said that searches the attorney general’s office carried out this week targeted at least six Latinos, including a Democrat running for the Texas House.

Domingo Garcia, the national president for LULAC, the nation’s oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization, said Abbott is trying to suppress the Hispanic vote. What Governor Abbott did today is disgraceful.”

HOUSTON Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia hosted a virtual press conference with the family of 20-year-old Vanessa Guillen, the Fort Hood soldier who has been missing for almost two months. My office has been working directly with Vanessas family as we do everything in our power to find Vanessa, Garcia said. Garcia said Guillens family told her that Vanessa Guillen did not feel safe on base and the Congresswoman mentioned the issues Fort Hood has had with sexual assaults. Guillen's family has been desperate for news of Vanessa who they say has big plans for her life. She has a lot of people who are really affected by everything thats going on, said Mayra Guillen, Vanessas sister.
