Houston Independent School District has resumed its curbside summer meals program. The district is providing free student meals at 12 locations, seven of which are operating in partnership with the Houston Food Bank. Families are able to pick up multiple days’ worth of student meals on Mondays and Thursdays through August 31. HOUSTON – Six curbside summer meal sites and all Fresh Bus produce delivery stops have been canceled after a Houston ISD employee tested positive for COVID-19, according to the district. Houston ISD said the six summer meal sites that are closed Thursday include Bastian, Foster, Shearn, Thompson, Whidby and R. P. Harris elementary schools. All other scheduled summer meal sites will remain open, the district said. The district said health officials do not believe families participating in the curbside summer meals and Fresh Bus produce delivery programs were exposed. During the temporary closure, families in need are encouraged to visit one of HISD’s 65 other curbside summer meals sites scheduled to be open on Thursday.

Dr. Rudy Rasmus, founder of Bread of Life and pastor from St. John's Downtown, explained the efforts they’ve been making to help families struggling to put food on their tables.

The company opened in August 2017, but near the beginning of February 2020, customers say the meals they paid for in advance stopped coming. Six customers reached out to the Houston Better Business Bureau when they say they couldn’t get their money back or the meals. Customers are fed up“It’s been excuse after excuse after excuse,” said Edna Wisdom. Sutton and her attorney told Davis that since KPRC 2 started interviewing customers on Friday, Sutton has refunded about $3,200. Davis told him absolutely.

HOUSTON – The Houston Christian high school senior class is stepping up to take care of healthcare workers at Memorial Hermann’s Memorial City Hospital. The seniors donated about $3,000 of their graduation funds to help provide 150 free lunches. Allen Tseng, chief operating officer for Memorial Hermann’s Memorial City Hospital, said the gesture goes a long way. The Houston Christian high school senior class isn’t just stepping up to help healthcare workers though. They plan to donate $10,000 to the Houston Food Bank on Friday to help families in need.
