While some of its time in the spotlight has been positive, lately, the famous turkey leg empire has been shrouded in controversy. The court issues a temporary injunction saying the Turkey Leg Hut would not be able to use its outside smokers from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily for 14 days. “We have successfully operated our business in compliance and cooperation with the city of Houston ordinances.”The Turkey Leg Hut’s attorney showed architectural plans to build an enclosed smoker. “Today’s ruling was a successful step in the right direction for the Turkey Leg Hut, whose good name and business have been unjustly damaged this week by the plaintiffs and their counsel,” the attorney said.

The food trucks are covered in Turkey Leg Hut advertisements and are easily confused as being associated with Turkey Leg Hut & Company, the lawsuit read. In December 2019, Price created TLH Concessions to operate the TLH food trucks and catering business, per the lawsuit. There are several TLH food trucks across Houston, including a truck near the flagship location.

The press release goes on to claim Turkey Leg Hut owners, Price and her husband Lyndell, were “given a pass” by the City of Houston. but have taken no enforcement action against (Turkey Leg Hut) owners, Nakia S. Price and Lyndell Price, who are prominent supporters of Mayor Sylvester Turner,” the press release read. The group agreed to suspend litigation “to give the Turkey Leg Hut owners one last chance to get in compliance with the law and finally become good neighbors,” according to the group’s lawyer, Cris Feldman. "After all, the Turkey Leg Hut’s outside cooking operation is still illegal.

Turkey Leg Hut received food safety citations in July 2018 and August 2019. On Wednesday, six neighbors slapped the Turkey Leg Hut with a lawsuit, forcing the restaurant to stop using outside smokers from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. for 14 days. Neighbors said both requests have been repeatedly denied, leaving them no option but to file the temporary injunction limiting the hours the Turkey Leg Hut can smoke meat outdoors. The temporary order will expire on Dec. 4., however, neighbors are seeking more long-terms restrictions on outdoor food preparations and smoking for the Turkey Leg Hut.
