PEARLAND, Texas – Students in Pearland ISD will return to school on Monday but the district has instituted a phase-in approach for in-person learning. On Monday, students with the last name A-F who have selected in-person learning can attend classes on campus. Each day of the remaining week will look similar with students attending bases on their last names. Here is a rundown of students’ expected phase-in schedule:August 31: All students with the last name A-F who selected on-campus learning will attend school for instruction. Sept. 1: Last names G- LSept 2: Last names M- RSept. 3: Last names S- ZSept. 4- No students on campus all students participate in asynchronous instruction.

PEARLAND, Texas – The NAACP of Brazoria County has called on the Pearland Independent School District to give special needs teacher, Holly Hardwicke Kanipes, 57, diversity training before she gets back in the classroom. Kanipes is under fire for a Facebook post, which has since been deleted, that said “White slaves were treated worse than any other race in the US. You won’t.”Many people quickly commented, telling Kanipes she should not be a teacher. Parent Dara Hooker-Williams said she was disappointed with the post but says this can be a teaching moment. This is a personnel matter and the district will work with the employee on training with our district Culturally Responsive Council.”The NAACP has filed a grievance with the school, the school district has ten days to respond.

"It was just the safest little place that we could move to for Kai to have equal opportunities as all of her peers," said her mother, Kimberly Shappley. They didn't make a big deal about Bailey being trans, they made a really big deal about how Bailey was treated," she said. His private funeral is set for 11 a.m. on June 9 at the Fountain of Praise Church (13950 Hillcroft Ave. in Houston). Floyd’s procession will be escorted by the Houston Police Department into Pearland following the funeral. Pearland city officials expect Floyd’s body to arrive in Pearland at Houston Memorial Gardens located at 2426 Cullen Blvd. Floyd will travel the last mile of the funeral procession in a horse-drawn carriage. At this time, officials said it is nearly impossible to estimate how many attendees will be in Pearland to view the procession, following the private funeral service.

Uncertainty regarding the coronavirus combined with a few operational factors has Pearland ISD weighing its options for the upcoming school year. Hybrid learning would allow students to have some face-to-face instruction which Kelly hopes will help the online learning portion run seamlessly. The district’s least favored option is complete at-home learning; however, the possibility is being weighed. After abruptly transitioning from face-to-face to online learning this spring, students were told they would pass as long as they completed their school work. Kelly said that would have to change if the upcoming school year is strictly online.

PEARLAND, Texas – Pearland ISD is hosting a virtual job fair starting Monday, April 20, through Friday, April 24. During the virtual job fair, candidates will have an opportunity to submit their job application along with a personal video introduction highlighting why they are a good fit for the district’s team. The week-long event will be held with online tables offering job opportunities at all campuses and several departments. Pearland ISD provides education to more than 21,500 students at 23 campuses. The district received an A+ rating according to Niche and a 93 according to the state accountability system, with a total of 14 schools rated A and seven rated B.
