MONTGOMERY COUNTY Residents in a community in Montgomery County are raising concerns about a towering eyesore behind homes. They said the site is a safety and environmental hazard.

HOUSTON – Residents in a north Houston neighborhood are speaking out against the Interstate 45 expansion, which would extend from Interstate 10 to Beltway 8. The opposition argues that the $7 million project, backed by the Texas Department of Transporation, is unnecessary. They said the project will displace residents and harm the air quality. They push for the city to invest in environmentally friendly projects, such as walking trails and biking lanes. The agency is currently conducting an environmental study for the expansion project.

HOUSTON – During a special session Monday, Montgomery County Commissioners Court designated $10 million to go toward rental assistance for residents in need. Montgomery County was funded $105 million from that act to help residents who were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. We must use these funds diligently and help all who have been affected,” Commissioner James Noack said in a press release. The fund will not have an income limit, unlike the $2.4 million approved for rental assistance during the May 26 Commissioners Court session. This means that middle-class families across the county who need rental assistance will also be able to apply.

Starting April 2, Laredo residents will have to cover their mouth and nose when entering any building that is not their home, according to the Laredo Morning Times. This includes offices, public transit and outdoor gas stations, per a Laredo City Council vote. Those in violation of the order, which will continue through April 30, could face a fine of up to $1,000 if their mouth and nose aren’t covered with a mask, bandana, scarf or other fabric. The Laredo City Council also voted to extend the city’s curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to pertain to all citizens, not just juveniles. Greg Abbott’s statewide order, residents can still exercise and walk pets after 10 p.m. as long as they comply with social distancing guidelines.
