When you fork over your hard-earned money at a restaurant, you expect the food to be fresh. Houston health inspectors said that was not the case when it came to cheese at Jade’s Teahouse, located at 5475 West Loop. At Jade's Teahouse, inspectors discovered cheese with a date indicating that it was several months old. Health inspectors reported finding German cockroaches in “all stages of life” at Pronto Cucinino at 791 Town and Country Boulevard. Restaurant inspectors said they spotted the creatures in the kitchen area and the dishwashing area, both on top of the floor and beneath it as well as along the front kitchen cook line.

That’s exactly what Houston restaurant inspectors found inside The New Thai Lily Café located at 2390 South Dairy Ashford Road. Inspectors report finding rodent droppings or rodent waste underneath the reach-in freezer. In fact, health inspectors ordered the restaurant closed down temporarily because of a roach problem on a big scale. Here, the restaurant inspectors noted finding several cockroaches under the three compartment kitchen sinks. Finally, at the Berryhill Baja Grill on Buffalo Speedway, health inspectors report finding slime in the ice machine.

HOUSTON – In the heart of the Museum District, Danton's Gulf Coast Seafood on Montrose boasts memories of days gone by. But inspectors took issue with food that wasn't safe for human consumption. They condemned 22 pounds of food, including crab, pork, chicken and cheese. Inspectors condemned more food at Andy's Home Cafe on 11th Street in The Heights. Inspectors condemned the food that wasn't safe for human consumption.

However, the restaurant is in trouble this week with health inspectors for storing meat sauce at dangerous temperatures. Stop number two is the popular Tornado Taco on Long Point Road, known for its fantastic street tacos, inspectors wrote-up the place for not removing dead bugs. The restaurant in trouble for not sweeping up roach carcasses from the kitchen. The dead bugs were found under the kitchen’s hand washing sink and on the wall above the sink. This week, we are pleased to award our A-plus rating to Panda Buffet located on Long Point Road for achieving a perfect inspection report.

Inspectors found slime in the ice machine and 250 pounds of ice had to be thrown out. Denny’s at 12862 Northwest Freeway also had an insect problem. Brick House Tavern and Tap at 12910 Northwest Freeway had to throw away 174 pounds of food because it was not safe to eat. And inspectors found more roaches at La Finca Mexican Restaurant at 11660 Westheimer Road. But there’s good news to report this week: Inspectors gave perfect grades to Potbelly Sandwich and Chipotle Mexican Grill, both on Westheimer near Dunvale.

HOUSTON – The buffet was bustling when we stopped by Cafe Ko on the feeder of the East Freeway near Normandy. Davis told her about what the mouse inspectors found stuck on a sticky pad in the restaurant and mouse droppings. The hostess excused herself to call a manager, but after that phone call, she just told Davis to "come back next time." On the Katy Freeway near Barker Cypress, inspectors found a roach on the dish machine at the El Rancho Mexican Restaurant. We're serving up A's this week to Table 19 in the 632 West 19th Street and Whataburger on the Katy Freeway near North Dairy Ashford.

HOUSTON – Live insects and rats are two things that should definitely not be in a kitchen. But health inspectors found them. From fast-food to fancy to a day care for kids, we've got you covered in this week's Restaurant Report Card. At First Three Stepps day care at 1027 West 15 1/2 Street in the Heights, inspectors said they saw live insects in the taco seasoning and the Italian seasoning containers. Both businesses got great scores from the Houston Health Department, earning them A's in the week's Restaurant Report Card.

HOUSTON – It's a double fail for half of the restaurants in this week's Restaurant Report Card. This time, inspectors said employees at the Foodarama at 11502 Wilcrest were putting "use by" dates on cooked chicken nuggets that were too far out. The inspector said the Foodarama was marking the chicken with a use by date some 14 days after it was opened. A Foodarama spokesperson sent us a letter from the company that makes the chicken nuggets. When KPRC Local 2 stepped inside the restaurant, the crew saw the tank immediately.

HOUSTON – Health inspectors found some not-so-appetizing things at restaurants across Houston. If 23-day-old tuna salad does not meet your culinary standards, you'll be happy to know health inspectors made employees at Antone's at 2724 West T.C. When inspectors stopped by on Dec. 30, they said they also found mortadella with a use-by date of Dec. 19. Inspectors asked employees at the Morningside Thai Restaurant on Morningside to clean the dead roach and roach droppings from the top of the dish machine. Inspectors asked employees to clean the black build-up off the back wall of the ice bin at the Picadilly Cafeteria in Almeda Mall.

HOUSTON – When you open a new restaurant, buzz is good. But health inspectors said what they found flying around several eateries is actually more of a buzz-kill for your appetite. Inspectors condemned 182 pounds of food deemed "not for for human consumption" because it was stored at the wrong temperature.
