Standout senior Justice Carlton not only leads her team she can now proudly proclaim that she is a 2024 McDonald’s All-American.

With teams such as Grand Oaks, Cinco Ranch, and Fulshear making their way to Garland, TX this weekend, the potential for a championship is within their grasp. Inevitably, the climax to this year should be nothing less than a spectacle to witness.

The Spartans return four starters from the squad that went 27-16 a year ago. First-team setter Simone Romriell is back after racking up 1,014 assists in 2022. She also had 299 digs and 45 blocks last season.

The final game of the UIL Soccer season did not disappoint. Georgetown’s illustrious Birkelbach Field was in full uproar, Saturday night, as the Seven Lakes Spartans faced off against the Dripping Springs Tigers to claim the title of State Champions.

What a crazy year 2020 was for Texas High School Volleyball. Needville was unbelievable in Class 4A, while Fulshear reached the state title match in Class 5A. In Class 6A, it was wild as two Houston-area schools reached the state title match with Seven Lakes winning their first-ever title. With the season in the books, it's time to name the All-VYPE team and hand out the postseason accolades. The Team, Coach and Player of the Year Awards will be announced during the 2021 VYPE Awards in June!

It has been over a week since Seven Lakes defeated Klein for the Class 6A State Championship bringing the first-ever state crown in volleyball to Katy ISD. Katy Seven Lakes defeated the Klein Bearkats 3-1 in four sets in Garland on Saturday to become the UIL Conference 6A Volleyball State Champions. Klein was able to win set one by a score of 26-24 over Seven Lakes. Seven Lakes was able to turn it around and rallied from behind with a score of 18-12. Seven Lakes got out to an early lead and came out with a win over Klein by a score of 25-20. Seven Lakes was able to pull off a 25-22 win to win the championship match.

It was August 17, 2018 and Seven Lakes was fresh off its inaugural trip to the UIL State Tournament the year prior. Seven Lakes won the highly contested match 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 27-25, 20-25, 15-13). For some teams, such as Seven Lakes, they had to halt games and practices for a short period of time due to COVID-19 cases. In the history of the UIL Volleyball State Championships, which dates back to 1967, Houston has brought home 10 state titles in the UIL's largest classification. Klein (27-0) faces Seven Lakes (24-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. inside the Curtis Cullwell Center in Garland for the UIL Class 6A State Championship.

The Eagles have been to the Regional Finals in 2018 and 2013 but that as far as they've gotten. It's been since 2006 that the 'Stangs have reached the Regional Finals. …The SleepersOak Ridge is solid and put up a fight against The Woodlands in district play. K Park won state a few years back and tied Lake Creek and Montgomery at 12-2 in one of the toughest volleyball districts in the state. Magnolia won district going 12-2 and face Porter in the first round, while West went 11-4 but face a tough K Park.

The Highlanders put away Grand Oaks in five games to remain in first in district. Staying up north, Montgomery has it rolling in Class 5A, winning 10 straight, while TWCA is putting it together in TAPPS 4A. Deer Park -- Undefeated in district play10. As Klein and Friendswood remain constants, the rest of the volleyball landscape in Houston is a little bumpy. The Woodlands lost back-to-back matches last week to St. Agnes and Klein, allowing for Seven Lakes, Dawson and George Ranch to gain ground in the Top 5. Grand Oak moves back into the Class 6A Top 10. 1 but just lost to Episcopal. However, St. Agnes beat Episcopal during the same round-robin.

No club tournaments to travel to, limited training available but what that means is everyone should be fresh for the 2020 campaign. VYPE whipped together this preview to get cross country fans ready for the 2020 season. These are the top runners and teams for Public School Boys Cross Country. When you look at a team that finished 16th overall at state last year but brings back everyone, that excites you. Other To Watch: HuffmanThe Huffman boys finished 15th overall at the UIL State Cross Country meet last year. The Spartans finished 12th overall at state last year but do lose top runner Erick Lara, who took 41st overall.

An experienced senior group is back, headed by Addison Stevenson, who finished ninth overall with a time of 18:06.58. If Tompkins can push a few more girls into the Top 30 spots, they could contend for a higher team finish. The team finished 13th overall at last year's state meet but do return some experience. OTHERS TO WATCH: Huffman FalconsHuffman finished ninth overall at the UIL State Cross Country meet last year. They do lose two senior runners but return three more harriers with experience.
