Police said the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. in the 3500 block of Lydia Street when officers were initially keeping watch at Spotts Park. The officers said they began following the vehicles while attempting to get a marked HPD unit for a traffic stop. The officers said they followed one of the vehicles to the area of Lydia and Springhill, where they eventually lost the vehicle. Officers said an AK-47 was located down the street from the intersection of Lydia and Springhill.

The South Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department responded to a reported shooting at 9:48 p.m. in 700 block of Virginia Street. Upon arrival, police said officers found two men shot to death and two other men suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said one of the men was shot several times and airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. The cause of the shooting is unknown.

According to police, the chase started about midnight after Pasadena police officers tried to stop a vehicle on Shaver Street that was believed to have been stolen during an aggravated robbery. Shaver Street appears to serve as the border between the cities of South Houston and Pasadena. Pasadena officers asked for assistance from Houston police about 12:15 a.m. as the chase entered the southeast part of the city, according to police. Police said two Houston officers and two Pasadena officers fired their guns, killing the person.
