Liberty County officials are holding the first of several promised workshops in the county to address the problem of stray dogs and other animal welfare-related issues in the county.

Katrina Byrd is one of dozens of residents who alerted authorities on the stray dog attacks and was told she had the right to defend herself by shooting the dogs. When she did, she was put in handcuffs.

On Friday afternoon, Maria Arroyo described to KPRC 2 Investigates how her two dogs were attacked and killed shortly after getting out of their home in the community of Santa Fe in Liberty County.

We had previously reached out to the county judge as well as the commissioners, but we wondered if they got a chance to see for themselves just how serious dog bites in their county could be. Deven Clarke attempted to bring pictures of bite wounds from recent attacks right to them.

While the problem of stray dogs is a big one across the Houston-area, it is quite possible that many of these dogs were dumped and abandoned by their owners.

Two of the most recent attacks occurred on Thanksgiving Day, further escalating the urgency for a solution. KPRC 2 reporter T.J. Parker witnessed the dangerous conditions firsthand while reporting live from the neighborhood
