Parents of students in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) organized a "sickout" protest against Superintendent Mike Miles' policies, expressing frustrations over the district's handling of potential ICE raids and pressure on teachers.

“Teachers are being bullied into submission, bullied out of their careers,” one HISD student said. ”The new curriculum is horrible. I’m stressed out. I’m tired. Everything is gloomy, and the atmosphere is just anxiety and stress.”

Throughout May, there have been several protests at various Houston Independent School District schools.
