A man accused of killing five people in Texas in 2023 after a neighbor complained that he was keeping a baby awake by firing a gun in his yard late at night has pleaded guilty to murder charges and will serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Nearly $50,000 was spent on a report assessing operations at the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office. The findings were compiled last August, but what happened from that point remains unclear. County Commissioners contracted with the LION Organizational Development Institute to conduct the assessment and offer solutions.

Francisco Oropesa, who authorities say killed five of his neighbors Friday was the subject of a protective order his wife filed in 2022, an official said.

Officials had been searching for Francisco Oropesa, 38, since Friday night when he allegedly shot his neighbors in Cleveland, Texas, after one asked him to stop firing rounds in his yard.
