LOS ANGELES – Natalie Desselle Reid, who starred alongside Halle Berry in the 1997 film “B.A.P.S.” and on the sitcom “Eve,” has died. Reid’s death on Monday was confirmed by Je’Caryous Johnson, the CEO of Je’Caryous Entertainment, which was planning a stage adaption of “B.A.P.S.” A rep for the actor's family said she died after a battle with colon cancer. In the film “B.A.P.S,” Reid and Berry played the roles of two waitresses at a Georgia food diner who decide to fly to Los Angeles for a music video audition. The tandem ended up living a luxury lifestyle as “Black American Princesses” while caring for an elderly Beverly Hills millionaire. Johnson said Reid was looking forward to bringing her role as Mickey in the film back to life.

ATLANTA – Thousands of people jammed roads for miles in Atlanta on Sunday to try to get boxes of food and gift cards donated by entertainer Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry Studios said they had enough boxes of canned vegetables and $25 gift cards for 5,000 families to drive through and pick up. The studio said it was out of food by 10 a.m. Sunday. The line started forming Saturday and at one point stretched for 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of downtown Atlanta, media outlets reported. Volunteers in protective equipment were handing out the food and gift cards.

ATLANTA Tyler Perry has offered to pay the funeral expenses for an 8-year-old girl who was fatally shot in Atlanta over the weekend, a representative for the actor and filmmaker confirmed Wednesday. Im outraged today because Id rather be paying for 8-year-old Secoriea Turners college than her funeral," Perry said in a statement to People magazine. When the driver tried to go around the roadblock, shots were fired and the girl was hit, Malecki told reporters at a news conference Tuesday. Malecki said the video comes from a surveillance camera near where Secoriea was shot. The girl was shot near the Wendys restaurant where a Black man, Rayshard Brooks, was killed by a white police officer June 12.

Perry said he almost passed on publishing his essay in the upcoming issue, which will be released Friday, but the filmmaker felt compelled to follow through because hes exhausted from what he's recently seen across the country. Im exhausted from all the hate and the division, the vitriol that I see online from one to another, the actor-writer-director writes. The level of racism and brutality that George Floyd faced is something that we as black people know all too well, he wrote. I know that as his father, a black man in America, it is my duty to prepare him for the harsh reality that awaits him outside of the watchful eyes of his loving parents.

It happened at 44 Krogers in the Atlanta area and 29 Winn-Dixies in Louisiana during special hours for those at higher risk of contracting coronavirus. “I stood there stunned because this is (in the morning) I haven’t had my coffee yet,” said Ray Metoyer, who had his groceries paid for by Perry. “It took a minute to sink in.”
