This was the first time the inaugural class came together in person, though, in a socially distant way at the Hilton University of Houston. The purpose that we have, said medical student Breanna Charchere. The socially distanced ceremony included having the new medical students reciting an oath written by the entire class. Im proud to say our new medical students are tackling these challenges head on.The University said it is taking a bold and fresh new approach to medical education.

The university announced Monday it has an online contact tracing certificate program called “Population Health During a Pandemic: Contact Tracing and Beyond” to “help reduce community spread of COVID-19.”So what is a contact tracer? The course “aims to prepare a new type of public health worker uniquely educated about COVID-19 and broadly trained to identify and alert individuals who have potentially been exposed,” a news release says. Read full article: UH College of Medicine gets $5M gift to fund scholarships, attract diverse studentsHOUSTON – The University of Houston College of Medicine received a $5 million gift from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas with the aim of attracting diverse students pursuing primary care medicine, according to a release. The contribution will be divided into $3.5 million for scholarships and $1.5 million to create a pipeline program to attract and retain students from diverse backgrounds who are interested in practicing primary care medicine. The scholarship fund will provide $100,000 scholarships to at least 35 medical students. “This is precisely why training primary care physicians is an urgent need. Recruiting and retaining the most diverse and academically competitive students, regardless of financial resources, is a top priority for our medical school," said UH President Renu Khator.
