Spring ISD said Westfield High School and the School for International Studies at Bammel were placed on lockdown Friday after three men were seen accessing the building at the main campus.

Students at Westfield Highschool are now accused of forming a mob and beating the assistant principal up so badly, she had to be rushed to the hospital. That’s according to the administrator’s family who says she was left unable to talk after the attack.

Thursday through Saturday, a collective 2,000 plus Spring ISD seniors from the for the district’s five high schools -- Spring Early College Academy, Spring High School, Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, Dekaney High School, and Westfield High School -- walked the stage of Planet Ford Stadium.

A Spring ISD mother is upset and concerned after she says an officer at Westfield High School choke slammed her son and held him on the ground for two minutes.

In fact, her high school advisors encouraged her to favor predominantly white institutions (PWI) for the path to success. In that moment, her success looked unattainable until the yellow brick road led her to the famous TSU Tiger Walk. Like her Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Campbell overcame setbacks and sought success and is on the path to becoming a notable HBCU alumni. It wasn’t until the TSU Honors College reached out to her because of good grades that she set her eyes on the Houston HBCU. AdCampbell said that she will continue this path of HBCU greatness.

SPRING, Texas – Westfield High School’s Ninth Grade Center in the Spring Independent School District opened it’s doors Tuesday, a day that has been a year-and-a-half in the making. Educators said the school district spared no expense. “They gave us the ‘wow’ factor.”“The building beats my expectations with what I thought could actually happen with this space,” said David Mason Jr., Westfield High School and Ninth Grade Center Principal. Since high schools in the district are so big, educators said this center is a great way to make sure the transition to high school for freshmen is easier while helping them build a foundation for success. “Kids who typically do well in ninth grade do well throughout high school.”The school will be hosting a virtual town hall soon to introduce the new center and ensure a smooth transition for students and parents.

That investment would allow nearly all students to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, online by the 2022-23 school year, according to the report. The TEA hired Texas A&M education researchers to evaluate how ready school districts are to transition to administering STAAR completely online. The researchers surveyed a sample of Texas school districts and other states' testing programs, including California, Florida and Pennsylvania. When surveyed in May, many Texas districts said they needed more devices to transition to fully online testing, according to the report. Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath has said students will take the STAAR, but schools and districts will not be rated on their scores.

The problems are concentrated among students trying to learn from home, more than 3 million of the state’s 5.5 million public school students, according to administrators’ accounts. According to KVUE-TV, about 11,700 Austin ISD students are failing at least one class this year, a 70% increase from last year. San Antonio’s Northside ISD has not changed its expectations for virtual students, despite seeing higher failure rates, said Superintendent Brian Woods. Since many students learning from home are low income, Black and Hispanic, lowering academic standards for those students could end up deepening existing inequities, he said. Bizuayehu has dyslexia and dysgraphia, which impacts his ability to write clearly by hand, and he’s found virtual learning much easier.

U.S. History teacher Cris Hernandez teaches a class remotely in an empty classroom at Westfield High School in Spring ISD. Westfield High School students are predominately Black, Hispanic and low income, communities harder hit by COVID-19 and more likely to have received little instruction last spring. Last: Hernandez uses two computers, a monitor and an iPad to teach and interact with his students online. Due to issues with the publisher, Westfield High students don’t have access to the online history textbooks the district purchased. Westfield High phased in students with disabilities first, then freshmen and sophomores next week, and juniors and seniors in two weeks.
