Over 73% of Texas school districts don’t have enough money, according to a new study by the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University.

Harris County Commissioners Court approved funding Tuesday that will allow the sheriff’s office to offer a retention incentive for detention officers.

The governing board of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, known as CPRIT, said it approved more than $90 million in new cancer research and prevention grants at its quarterly meeting near the Texas Capitol on Wednesday.

This year, more than 10,000 children are expected to be diagnosed with cancer.

– Families across Texas are struggling to pay for Autism therapy even though legislation was approved last year to help offset those costs. When a child is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, parents are often told Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy is their best bet for treatment. While ABA therapy was supposed to be covered by Texas Medicaid, more than 70,000 children in Texas, who are eligible for this treatment if they need it, still don’t have access to it. But for many Texas children enrolled in Medicaid, they are still waiting. Having the coverage through Texas Medicaid would be a huge burden off of her shoulders in more ways than one.
