Nearly 20 years ago Candace Nelson and her husband Charles co-founded Sprinkles Cupcakes. Today, the company has sold more than 200 million cupcakes worldwide at more than 20 locations and 30 cupcake ATMs. Candace has also published several books, produced and appeared on multiple TV shows, and she co-founded Pizzana, an award-winning pizzeria chain that just opened in Houston. HOUSTON – Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is looking to score with his latest venture, Lefty’s Famous Cheesesteaks, Hoagies & Grill. He became part-owner of the restaurant in August and plans on opening multiple franchises in Houston. Lefty’s Famous Cheesesteaks is a fast-casual, counter-service founded in 2010 by Sam Berry, a 36-year-old cancer survivor. Lefty’s Famous Cheesesteaks has grown over the last 24 months, boasting 23 locations in Michigan and adding 20 more stores in the next four months. “We are so excited to be in Houston with Deshaun Watson as the new face of our brand,” said Berry, the founder and CEO of Lefty’s Famous Cheesesteaks.

HOUSTON – Shake Shack is launching its first location in The Woodlands on Nov. 19, according to Community Impact Newspaper. The fast-casual chain will offer both indoor and outdoor dining, along with a walk-up window for to-go orders. The new location will also utilize the new Shake Track digital preordering service as well. Shake Shack features burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, crinkle-cut french fries and milkshakes. This marks the fifth Houston-area location, with others in the Galleria, Rice Village, Montrose and downtown areas.

A new open-air lounge, The Sporting Club, opened Thursday on Washington Avenue at Roy Street. The restaurant is at 5102 Washington Avenue. The menu at The Sporting Club focuses on fresh seafood, light coastal Italian bites and upscale spins on classic bar favorites, including salads, pizzas and desserts. “We are excited to bring the all-new concept of The Sporting Club to the Washington Corridor,” said Dan Wierck, the owner of the parent-company SoClutch Group. The dining space features exposed brick from the original building with opulent crystal chandeliers, antique mirrors, natural weaving and topiary wallpaper line the textured walls.

HOUSTON – The Tilman Fertitta family and the King Ranch family are launching a new restaurant in the Galleria area. King Ranch Texas Kitchen is a southern-style steakhouse, which is set to open before the holidays. The menu will include beef cheek Barbacoa tacos, smoked brisket queso, King Ranch fried quail, blackened redfish and smoked brisket Pimento grilled cheese, per the website. While King Ranch, a major agribusiness with interests in farming, luxury retail goods, and recreational hunting, will supply meats and other products. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturday.

HOUSTON – A long-awaited Indian restaurant is now open in The Galleria mall. Musaafer, which means traveler in Hindi, embraces authentic ingredients from the multicultural subcontinent of India. Two chefs went a 100-day journey traveling to the 29 states of India. They gathered stories and experiences and translated regional recipes into the new eclectic menu, which features items such as Mangalorean chicken curry, Kerala beef fry, Laal Maas and Malwani lobster curry. This upscale two-story restaurant located in The Galleria’s luxury wing near Nobu and Fig and Olive is the first U.S. based concept for Dubai-based Spice Route Co.

HOUSTON – Torchy’s Taco is opening its 16th Houston-area location on Dec. 11 at the Tanglewood Court Shopping Center. Before the grand opening on Wednesday, the popular taco chain is throwing an opening party on Monday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. when guests can enjoy free tacos and drinks, Green Chile Queso, giveaways and more. The event will be open to the public, and more details will be available at the location. “Texas will always be the birthplace of Torchy’s, so the continued growth and support we’ve seen from the Houston market is really special, especially as we look to expand across the country,” CEO of Torchy’s Tacos G.J. “Houstonians know more than anyone what Damn Good food is all about, so we’re excited to offer a 16th location in the heart of the Galleria area for fans to get their queso fix,” Hart said.
