(CNN) -- If you’re getting money from the federal government as part of the recent stimulus response to the coronavirus, you’ll also get a letter from President Donald Trump explaining why. CNN has obtained a copy of the letter signed by the President and sent to recipients of the stimulus payments. The Treasury Department said Friday more than 88 million people received stimulus payments in the past week. A controversy erupted once it was known that the physical checks sent out with the stimulus payments included a note on the bottom left with Trump's name on it. The Treasury Department did not immediately return a request for a comment.

Those who haven't been required to file a return during the past two years may have to submit some information online before receiving the payment. How do I check on the status of my payment? The IRS is creating an online tool, called Get My Payment, that can be used to check on the status of your money. However, taxpayers won't be able to update their bank information once the payment is already scheduled for delivery, and it won't allow you to update bank information already on file, the Treasury Department said. There are millions of low-income people who are not normally required to file tax returns that will have to take some action before receiving their stimulus money.
