The last of five suspects charged in connection to a yearslong Houston-based cheating scandal, involving hundreds of unqualified teachers getting certified to teach at schools statewide, turned herself in Monday.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced criminal charges Monday against five people accused of participating in a teacher-certification cheating scheme that allowed unqualified teachers to work in local school districts.

Officials said Jahmall Le’Sean Thomas, 39, was a teacher at Hardin ISD and was involved in a relationship with a female student at a Polk County School District.

HOUSTON – A former HISD teacher accused of sexually assaulting elementary students is in custody. “He did turn himself in by calling the police himself,” said the court attorney. He’s charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child. According to court documents, he sexually assaulted several third-graders inside his classroom at Northside Elementary School, some dating back to 2016. Prosecutors believe there are more victims and urge them to come forward.

DALLAS – A Dallas school district is investigating a high school English teacher who asked students to write about a modern-day hero and listed the 17-year-old accused of killing two people during Wisconsin protests as one possible option. The Dallas Independent School District did not release the name of the W. T. White High School teacher who assigned the report. In a statement, the district said: “An unapproved assignment posted in Google Classroom yesterday has been brought to our attention.

HOUSTON – A teacher at The Woodlands Christian Academy is accused of an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old female student, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities and school officials were notified of the accusations on Dec. 13, 2019. Cunningham was placed on administrative leave from the school, officials said in an email to parents. “The safety of our students is our top priority,” school officials wrote.
