I told you about this massive closure first on “KPRC 2 News Today” last week, that’s set to shut down the Southwest Freeway southbound connector to the West Loop southbound main lanes for a whole two years! Yeah, when we say massive, we meant it. You’ve got to prepare now, because it ain’t gonna be fun.
The most recent information on this closure that I have for you is the Texas Department of Transportation’s official detour, so here it is:

Detour:
- Continue on the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway and pass up the West Loop
- Exit Fountain View Drive
- U-turn on Fountain View Drive
- Get back on the highway and continue northbound on US-59
- Then, you’ll grab the southbound connector ramp to the West Loop from there
And, just as a reminder, this is what’s happening:
- The 59 southbound connector ramp to the West Loop southbound main lanes is set to close for the next two years. This is going to impact folks that are driving towards Sugar Land and trying to access the Meyerland or Bellaire area.
- The Chimney Rock Road exit from the Southwest Freeway southbound main lanes is set to close at the same time.
- The shutdown is expected to last for the next two years and is scheduled to kick off Friday, April 29, at 9 p.m. and will be in place for the next two years.
- TxDOT is still on track to finish the entire project by 2024.
The I-610/59 interchange is one of the most heavily congested, ranking as the number one most congested interchange in Texas, according to the TxDOT. For the past several years, the improvements designed for this project have aimed to change that. With that being said, another massive closure is going to shut down part of the interchange in order to make room for the work that’s coming up.

Drive safely my friends :)
