METROHouston gearing up to amp up their electric bus fleet

No description found

How’s it going Houston?

METROHouston is going electric! A federal grant is helping METRO roll into a greener future, as they receive over $21 million in federal funding to buy 20 new electric buses in Houston. Now, I already told you about their new electric fleet of 20 buses coming to Houston with in the next year and this money is going to double that amount! Houston will see 40 buses rolling down Houston streets at some point next year, as the fleet needs to be built bus by bus.

Mayor Sylvester Turner said, “This is a great day for the city of Houston, METRO, and all who ride public transportation,” adding that nearly 50% of our greenhouse gas emissions is from the transportation center.”

Back to school season!

Mom and dad, how are y’all holding up? For many families, kids are already back in school. Some parents are ready to get the kids out of the house and put their feet up for a few hours with a mimosa in hand after a hectic summer. Some are bawling their eyes out as they watch their babies get on that school bus and wave goodbye. No matter which one of these resonates most with you, what rings true for everyone is that morning bumper-to-bumper traffic has made its triumphant comeback. Next week will be a big one, as HISD and CyFair ISD return to class.

So, with more cars on the road, the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to stay focused and drive safely in and around school zones and bus stops. Everyone has a responsibility to keep children safe on their way to and from school. Here’s how you can do your part:

Tips for Driving in School Zones

• Be aware that traffic patterns around schools may have changed since the last school year.

• Stay alert and put your phone away. Using a handheld electronic device while driving in an active school zone is against the law.

• Always obey school zone speed limit signs. Remember, traffic fines increase in school zones.

• Drop off and pick up your children in your school’s designated areas, not the middle of the street.

• Keep an eye on children gathered at bus stops.

• Watch for children who might dart across the street or between vehicles.

It’s a conscious effort by all parties to make sure everyone has a smooth back to school season, and every student is able to make it to school and back home SAFE.

Drive safely my friends,
