Grab your running shoes! This weekend is the 4th annual Race for the Dome. We know when there is a big race, we can expect more traffic and road closures.

Race for the Dome

The 4th Annual Race for the Dome will kick off Saturday morning at the Astrodome. The big event will be benefiting the Astrodome Conservancy. There will be a 5K road race and a kids 1K run for the little ones. Following the run, race goers will have a chance to celebrate the Astrodome’s 59th birthday.

Race Route/Closures

According to the City of Houston, street closures will start at 5:00 am and last until 9:30 am. Runners will start in the NRG Stadium/Astrodome parking lot, then cross the southernmost pedestrian bridge before hitting the streets and exiting onto Westridge St. From there, racers will turn right onto Lantern Point Dr., turn right onto McNee, and cross the northernmost pedestrian bridge over Kirby Dr. The race will end in the NRG/Astrodome parking lot.

610 Closures

If you are traveling on the south side of town the 610 South loop EB connector ramp to SH-288 is currently closed. According to TxDOT, it will be closed until further notice. If you have to utilize the 610 West loop following the Race, be sure to remember the NB connector ramp to I-69 Southwest Freeway NB is also closed.
