HOUSTON – All lanes of US Highway 290 will be closed in both directions on Saturday, May 25. The closure, initially scheduled for 7 to 8 a.m., started around 9:50 a.m. According to Centerpoint, the work was completed, and lanes were reopened by 11 a.m.
The closure will be in the area of US 290 and Kingswood Lane. Crews are expected to begin setting up for the transmission work at 5 a.m. and begin the first stoppage two hours later.
The purpose of the temporary shutdowns is for CenterPoint Energy to repair the transmission lines that were damaged extensively during the severe thunderstorms on May 16.
“We would also like to apologize for the inconvenience this closure will cause the community during this time and thank them in advance for their patience as we complete this important restoration work,” a statement from CenterPoint Energy read.
Officials didn’t specify exactly how long the stoppages will last, but they were described as taking “a few minutes.”
