HOUSTON – Texas is one of the 10 winning routes selected for potential development for high-speed transportation.
The Houston-Laredo-Dallas route was named a winner by the Los Angeles startup company Hyperloop One’s in their Hyperloop One Global Challenge. The challenge sought to identify the strongest routes in the world for development.

The company aims to build a system of vacuum-sealed tubes that will create a low-pressure system to allow trains, or "pods," to move at high speeds with little resistance inside from air pressure.
If the system is built, it would take less than an hour to travel from Dallas to Houston. Normal travel time between the cities usually takes about four hours by car.
The 640-mile system would run along I-35 and I-10, connecting all the major cities in the Lone Star State.
Ten teams from five countries were chosen from among hundreds of applicants.
Company officials said in a press release that they will “commit meaningful business and engineering resources and work closely with each of the winning teams/routes to determine their commercial viability.”
