Severe weather moves through Houston area

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for multiple counties around Houston

HOUSTON – Severe weather moved quickly through the Houston area Tuesday afternoon bringing lightning and hail.

A strong line of storms associated with a fast-moving cold front have been ripping through the area with winds and gusts up to 50 mph and stronger. We have had reports of heavy rain, small hail and wind damage to fences.

Bush Intercontinental Airport clocked a wind of almost 45 mph. Johnson Space Center reported almost 2 inches of rain. The heavier rains will be diminishing and exiting Southeast Texas by dinnertime while the immediate Houston area is already seeing leftover showers. 

We will have dry, less humid air with a lot of sunshine starting Wednesday.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued for several counties throughout Tuesday afternoon, including Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery and Washington counties, but have all expired.
