HOUSTON – We are forecasting rainfall associated with a cold front Friday.
Thankfully the timeline for the rain has shifted from Friday afternoon, to later Friday evening. This is a good thing because we do have a street flooding threat. Although some folks certainly will be out late Friday evening, many will be at home and off the roads. If you go to sleep before 10PM Friday, there’s a good chance you will miss all of the rainfall.
Timeline:
The actual cold front will move through Friday evening, but ahead of the front we can see some pre-frontal showers and perhaps a thunderstorm during the day on Friday. There is no severe weather threat but some lightning is possible.
The actual front will push through well after sunset Friday moving from the NW to the SE. The line of showers and embedded thunderstorms currently looks to be entering NW Harris county between 8-10PM.
The line of showers and storms will continue to push towards the coast. The current timeline has it pushing towards the coast by midnight.
The current timeline has the storms off the coast by 3AM.
Flood Threat:
There is a low threat for flooding for all of southeast Texas. Forecast rainfall is anywhere from 0.5″-1.5″ which is manageable. Of course, with a thunderstorm we can get higher accumulations which could lead to some very localized flooding concerns.
