This week is warm and humid with temperatures approaching 90 by Friday! I’ve already heard folks complain about the “spring sizzle” we’re experiencing, but don’t fret! We’re already tracking our next cold front that will lower temperatures, lower humidity, and bring rain chances. Let’s dive in!
Cold Front Timing:
Our cold front will be pushing in this weekend. Right now our timing looks to be Saturday night into Sunday morning. The timing can change (fronts often speed up) but right now at 4 AM the front looks to be to the NW of Houston.
By 9 AM the front will be pushing through Houston bringing heavy downpours and the chance for lightning.
By 11 AM the front will be pushing off the coast. We should be dry by 1 PM if this timing does not change.
Right now there is no severe weather threat, but this could change. Forecast rainfall accumulation will be highest to the north of I-10, but this is a very preliminary forecast for accumulation.
Temperature Changes:
Our cold front is pushing in from the west, which means our “cold air” behind the front is not as cold as the arctic fronts from the north we get through the winter. Although it’s not a major drop, the temperatures will become much more comfortable to end the weekend! Our afternoon highs will go from the 80s and lower-90s to the 70s!
Our normal low temperature is 60° which means we are staying over 10° above normal for our overnight lows for most of the week. We will finally have lows around (and even lower)) than normal after the cold front.
Humidity Change:
A major change will be the drop in humidity! This week we have had dewpoints in the 70s but by Monday our dewpoints will be in the 50s. This means we will feel much more comfortable. With temperatures in the 50s Monday morning it will even feel crisp!
Are you excited for the cold front? I know we sure are!
