HOUSTON – While Monday morning’s weather in Houston seemed quiet, it won’t be like that in the afternoon and this evening.

Our weather today has the potential to be dangerous. Our northern cities are under a flood watch until 7 p.m. tonight. It won’t take much rain to get flooding. We also have an enhanced threat of severe weather for parts of Southeast Texas.

The severe weather parameters for large hail and damaging winds are being met. I’m concerned these storms will catch the unaware off guard. The threat of tornadoes is low, 2%. The storms move out late tonight.

While Monday morning’s weather in Houston seemed quiet, it won’t be like that in the afternoon and this evening.
The National Weather Service says a chance of showers and thunderstorms are likely after 3 p.m. The storms are first expected around 1 p.m. but are expected to worsen throughout the day.
Additionally, large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats as well as a possible tornado - though there’s a small chance of it.

This is troubling news for residents, who are still picking up the pieces from last week’s severe weather threat. KPRC 2 Reporter Gage Goulding spoke with some families living north of I-10 who are still recovering from the most recent flood that nearly rivaled Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
