Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for the Houston area with damaging winds and large hail possible

Friday morning is off to a rough start, weather-wise, for the Greater Houston area.

The primary threat for today appears to be wind damage, traveling at about 50 to even 70 miles per hour, so you’re encouraged to head out early before the threat arrives or wait it out because we’ve seen over the last three weeks how dangerous these winds are.

My main area of concern is the leading edge from Cypress into Charterwood, all the way from Conroe into Panorama Village. In other words, as the storm progresses into the east, it will bring stronger wind and heavier rain.

That being said, if you’re in The Woodlands-Conroe area, you want to take shelter.

More afternoon thunderstorms are possible Saturday. Next week we head into a typical summertime weather pattern which includes heat, humidity and a chance of sea breeze afternoon thunderstorms.
