Monday’s Forecast:
We’re in for more heat for the start of July. Monday, temperatures will warm to the upper 90s, with what feels like temperatures over 105. Even though we are under a dome of high pressure, there is still a chance for an isolated shower or storm in the late afternoon and evening.
Saharan Dusts:
Sunday night Saharan dust moved into Texas and is here to stay through the early week. Saharan dust can reduces air quality, helps our marine ecosystem and creates red sunrises and sunsets. If you’re sensitive to hazy conditions, make sure to wash your hands and change your clothes if you go outside for long periods of time.
Tracking the tropics:
Beryl is now a category 4 Hurricane, making it the first hurricane of the 2024 season. Sunday night into Monday, it moves into the Windward islands, bringing tropical storm force winds and storm surge up to 9 feet. Beryl will continue to move westward through the Caribbean Sea and, by Thursday, will approach the Yucatan Peninsula, which is weakening to a tropical storm. We will continue to monitor how far north Beryl will travel once it moves closer to the Gulf of Mexico, but impacts on Houston seem unlikely.
Another tropical wave behind Beryl has a 70% chance of developing over the next 7 days. If it does develop, it will have plenty of warm water to help it strengthen.
In the southern Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Depression Three will weaken Monday as it makes landfall in Mexico. This will have no impact on SE Texas.
10-Day Forecast:
Temperatures get hotter next week with Houston getting close to 100°. The 4th is firecracker hot!
