The Texans first preseason game in Houston will be hot... in more ways than one!

Saturday’s preseason home opener will be a sizzler for fans

Houston Texans fans tailgate at NRG Stadium in Houston.

How hot are we talking?

A strong ridge of high pressure has been the dominant feature across most of Texas, including for us here in Houston for most of August. Contrast that to the cooler and certainly wetter July, many Texans fans were thinking, maybe we’ll be able to keep this stretch of cooler than average summer temps going to kick off the season. Well ... the blaze is back!

Texan tailgate forecast

We’re all chomping at the bit to get the 2024 season kicked off and watch our Texans get back to the playoffs (and honestly, let’s see about that Super Bowl run ... but that’s for another day).

Tomorrow’s game will be the first time Texans fans get to dust off the smokers and grills, but it will come with a price.

We’re expecting to see temperatures spike into the upper 90s, feeling more like the 100s early in the day. That means, tailgates will be affected for pre-game and certainly for after the game with feeling like a sauna!

Know The Signs Of Heat Trouble

It’s always a good note to remember when it’s as hot as we’re expecting this weekend, to “hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!” This will be even more important this weekend for tailgating at the Texans game. If you do happen to feel the effects of too much sun, it’s critically important to know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. One can be treated on the scene, and the other needs medical attention immediately. Here’s a good checklist below to watch for.

Bottom line is to be careful in this heat. We’re still in the dog days of August for a few weeks. And more importantly, GO TEXANS!!
