National Hurricane Center monitoring low in Western Gulf for tropical development

Heavy rainfall expected in SE Texas regardless of formation

There is a low chance for development over the next week in the Western Gulf of Mexico. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

The National Hurricane Center is now monitoring the low-pressure system in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico for tropical development, but don’t sound the alarm.

This is the same low we have been tracking all week that has been bringing our showers and storms.

No description found

The low will continue to meander off the coast as it drifts towards Louisiana. If it stays over the warm Gulf waters, it has a chance for development, but it is a low chance. A 10% chance in the next two days and only a 20% in the next seven days.

No description found

Regardless of development, our forecast is unchanged. We are still tracking the potential for heavy rains that could bring flash flooding over the next few days. The highest rainfall totals will be by the coast.

Heavy rainfall is likely. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

Although the threat is low, it’s a good reminder that we are still in the tropical season. Stay weather-aware!
