When we FINALLY cool down in Houston

It’s on the 10 day forecast

HOUSTON – It has been a very warm Autumn. For the month of October we were nearly 4° above average and so far in November we’ve been in the mid-and-upper 80s every day. This is NOT normal. Our normal high this time of year should be in the mid-70s.

We only had two days in the last month where we have felt a little like fall. Many folks called this our “fake fall” because on October 16th and 17th we had lower humidity and highs in the mid-70s. This did not last long as you can see below.

Although we have stayed warm, we actually have seen several cold fronts. These fronts only brought modest drops in temperatures —moving from the 90s down to the 80s in the afternoon, and from the 70s to the 60s in the mornings. However, the big difference has been the significant drop in humidity, giving us a handful of delightfully dry days.

Although the lower-humidity has been nice, many have asked about when we will finally see a big cool down. Last year and in 2021 our first big cold front arrived in Mid-October. In 2022 we didn’t see our big cool down until the end of October.

This year it finally looks like we will see our first big fall front next week. Our current timing brings the cold front through next Wednesday. This will bring a rain chance but more importantly this will bring a big cool down.

This cold front will be noticeable as it moves through with a dramatic drop in temperatures, humidity and wind shift. This will also drop highs down into the upper-60s and lower-70s. Lows will drop to the upper-40s and 50s.

The timing of the cold front could shift slightly, but we are fairly confident that we will finally have a healthy cool down next week.

Until then stay cool and stay hydrated out there!
