Houston hasn’t had a morning in the low and mid-40s in over 240 days. The last time the morning temperature dropped to 43 was March 19th.

With winter only a month away, you might be wondering if there is more cold air to come. The answer lies in our global patterns.

NOAA is predicting a La Nina this winter. La Nina usually occurs when cooler-than-average temperatures develop in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean off the coast of South America. Its cooling influences global weather patterns by changing the strength and location of the Jetstream.

Cooler waters off the coast of South America lead to global weather pattern changes.

Because of this pattern, cold stretches may be harder to come by in southeast Texas, leading to a warmer and drier pattern.

Southeast Texas there is a 40-60% chance of seeing below-normal precipitation.
Temperatures have a 70% - 80% chance to be above average this winter in southeast Texas.
